God’s people are beginning to receive again the tools that are needed to reap the harvest and defeat the kingdom of darkness. It would be ridiculous to send forth reapers into the harvest field without a sickle, or to send soldiers into battle without a weapon. In recognition of this need, God’s intention is to restore to His people the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

They are the tools and weapons that are needed for doing the work. Paul made this comment about his ministry in Romans 15:18–19: For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient—in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

It is my firm conviction that the stubborn, rebellious, unbelieving heart of man will never be brought into full subjection to the Gospel of Jesus Christ without the demonstration of supernatural power. I have seen this connection confirmed numerous times.

Most of the time, you can get a degree of conformity, acceptance of doctrine and church membership without really changing attitudes or hearts. It often takes the demonstrated supernatural power of God to make men and women really obedient. One miracle has the power to make even the most obstinate person tremble.
