Make the Bible your fireplace

The Bible is like fire in so many ways when it is allowed inside the human heart. For example, as fire purifies metal, the Word of God purifies our consciences. It renews our minds, illuminates our spirits, and drives away darkness. Its brilliant light exposes areas in our lives that need to be changed. Like a lighted match put to kindling, when the fire of God’s Word is lit in the heart, it sets the heart on fire.

The power of His Word brightly burns within us when we throw the door open to that divinely energized flame and welcome its cleansing into our lives to bring change. God’s Word brings us warmth and comfort in times of difficulty. Oh, how I love to think of the warmth that the Bible brings to my heart! There is no medication that soothes the soul like His Word.

Like the warmth and comfort I feel when I draw near to the glowing warmth of a fireplace, the Word of God warms my heart when I sit before it and allow its life-giving truth to permeate my being. I have discovered time and again that when I draw near to the Bible, it comforts me. There are no words to adequately express the warmth and comfort the Bible brings to me or to anyone who makes room for its life-giving presence in his or her life. In addition to bringing us comfort, the fiery impact of God’s Word also awakens us to areas of our lives that need to be transformed by His Spirit.

A believer will sense the effect of God’s Word if he allows the flames of its truth to erupt in his heart. When that believer hears the Scriptures expounded by the anointing of the Holy Spirit, or when he reads the Bible to take it by faith into his heart, its supernatural power is unleashed. And when that happens, that person’s heart, will, thoughts, emotions, and memories are all touched by God’s power as if by fire. The life in those words awakens the recipient to receive a greater measure of God’s presence into his life in the divine process of transformation.

And as that Christian drills deep and by faith taps into the divine power and presence contained in the Holy Spirit-inspired words in the Bible, the spiritual force that is released can change anything! Fire has melting power. And those who are willing to let the Word of God do its deeper work will see stubbornness and unbelief melting away in their lives.

Even the stony hearts of those who seem to let nothing move them can melt like wax when they come under the influence of the anointed Word. The hardest heart has been known to melt when it comes near the intense heat of the spiritual fire released by the Word of God.
