In Him!

 In Him

As abstract as it may be to think of peace being received through a Person, it’s important to note that real peace is not found apart from Him. So intimacy with Jesus—resting in His presence—is the fueling station of Peace.

Now, how often do you need to be fueled? How often do you need to stay seated? I believe the answer is always. Jesus Himself said that He could do nothing apart from the Father. So any disconnect we have in our intimacy with Him is simply a moment’s relapse into anxiety, frustration, stress and the like. In other words, we don’t find peace by simply reading the Bible but by staying with Jesus Himself, always.

This is why Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me” (John 15:4). He knew that apart from Him we would be fruitless. Jesus went on to say, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

We could consider fruit to be any good thing produced in our lives. We know that every good thing in our lives comes from above—from the Father of Lights (James 1:17), and so it is with fruit. You cannot make fruit—you bear fruit. Fruit is not born through striving but grows (often slowly and progressively) from the source and that source is the branch. A branch that is cut off from the vine will be fruitless. In our case, the Vine is Christ.

The switch is that we cannot view our relationship with God as a task or activity to be checked off the list. God will give us plenty of awesome things to do (Ephesians 2:10), but the truth is that our relationship with God is a relationship with a Person. So until we start viewing Jesus as a Living God, we will treat Him only as a story to read about or an idol to pray to—but never a two-way relationship to be with.

And “with” is the word of the Kingdom. It was the prized possession of the Father for His two sons in the Luke 15 Parable of the Prodigal Son: “‘My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours’” (Luke 15:31).

What else can you ask from a loving caring true living God?

Today, God called me “His friend”.
